The dragonfly has a special meaning in Japanese culture, it is the subject of poems, games and stories of haiku. In Japanese myths about the origin of the Japanese islands one of these is called "Akizu", which means dragonfly. It is also a symbol of the samurai, since the hair of the young warriors were woven into a dragonfly knot. In Shintoism, the dragonfly was considered the spirit of the rice plant, announcing a rich autumn harvest. The Japanese poet and author of children's books Rufo Miki wrote the song "Akatombo" ("Red Dragonfly"), which is still very popular in Japan today.
